If votes keep coming in as they are, Oregon will elect Republican Chris Dudley to be the next governor. Hours after the polls closed on Tuesday the Governor race is still too close to call with Dudley having 49% of the vote and Democrat John Kitzhaber trailing with 47%.
Oregon medical marijuana took a hit with state and Jackson County voters rejecting Measure 74, which would have established a medical marijuana supply system and allowed the state to tax limited selling of marijuana.
Measure 73, mandating tougher penalties for the serious sex offenders and drunk drivers was passing with 57 percent approval statewide.
In Oregon House contests, incumbents beat challengers in all races. In district two, Republican Greg Walden was beating Sears by a 3-1 margin.
In State races, Democrat Peter Buckley is pulling ahead of Abercrombie for State Representative District 5 and it looks like voters will keep Peter DeFazio in 4th District seat.
In the race for Jackson County commissioner, Republican Don Skundrick is winning over Democratic and Independent candidate Jeff Golden and Republican John Rachor is defeating Democrat Mark Wisnovsky.
Locally, the city of Talent elects Bill Cecil for Mayor, defeating challenger Darby Stricker. In the races for Medford city council, incumbent Al Densmore defeats chalenger Curt Ankerberg . challenger Karen Blair beat Ben Turwe. In the race for Ashland City council, Michael Morris defeated incumbent Eric Navickas and Dennis Slattery defeated Bruce Harrell.
Voters overwhelming voted yes to dissolve Shady Cove water district. And in Ashland, voters again said yes to a new five year operating levy for the school district.
