Oregon couple hold burglar at gunpoint until police arrive

A Eugene, Ore. resident was on his way to work last week when he noticed two feet hanging out the back window of his truck parked in the driveway. The burglar had broken the back window glass in what’s assumed as an attempt to steal the truck or valuables inside.

The resident tells KBOI 2:

“You never know what you're going to do until it happens, but I sure as hell wasn't going to be a victim.”

The truck owner immediately confronted the would-be burglar, and a scuffle ensued. The man’s girlfriend heard the commotion from inside the house and immediately called the police and armed herself with a shotgun.

Aiming the shotgun at the criminal, later identified as Shawn Daniel Johnson, he taunted her, saying, “Shoot me.” The girl, however, told him that he wasn’t worth shooting. No shots were ever fired.

Police arrive about six minutes later and arrested Johnson for unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, theft in the third degree, possession of burglary tools and possession of marijuana. He was released from jail only a few hours later due to overcrowding.

The resident states that he plans to start a neighborhood watch.
