There is no doubt that an integral part of Eugene culture is local brew. The Emerald City is proud to be home to countless breweries that produce a seemingly endless array of delicious hand-crafted beers. Whether you are in the local grocery store, your favorite pub, or a local restaurant, you are sure to find plenty of examples of locally produced beer. The fact that this caliber of beer is readily available to local residents and visitors is astounding, however, having the breweries themselves easily accessible to the public is truly a great thing.
An amazing opportunity is coming up this month for Oregonians to familiarize themselves with their local breweries. The second annual Zwickelmania is returning to Eugene this President's Day weekend on Saturday, February 13th. Celebrating quality brew, this is a free statewide event that is hosted by the Oregon Brewers Guild (OBG) where patrons will be able to visit and tour their local breweries, meet those who brew their beer, and, of course, enjoy some samples. McMenamins High Street Brewery is one of the many tasty stops on the tour, so be sure to head in and taste some brew, but don't forget their famous Cajun Tots to go with it. The roster also includes these other local legends: Eugene City Brewery, Ninkasi Brewing Co., Oakshire Brewing, and Hop Valley Brewing.
For even more icing on the cake, as if it weren't sweet enough already, there will be a shuttle running between all the participating local Eugene breweries that will be transporting thirsty brewsters from one delicious stop to the next. The final stop on the tour is a visit to the Microbrew Festival put on by KLCC 89.7 Public Radio, a sort of fitting "grand finale" to the day's events. So get ready to see where your favorite local brew comes from and be ready to meet who you have to thank for it. This will be a day full of amazing beer, great opportunities, and most certainly, a ton of fun and laughs. There is certainly one Eugene Examiner that you may see there, but he shall remain nameless.
