Two incidents of multiple UFO reports have occurred in England over the past week. Both involved multiple witnesses separately reporting orange lights traveling lower than an airplane traveling through the night sky. One incident has been declared something other than an unidentified flying object, while the other has not. The question that remains now is are the two events connected, and if so does that mean both were false alarms or is something else going on?
First, the event that has been “de-bunked”: according to the BBC, multiple witnesses reported strange orange lights in the sky over the Gateshead area. One witness went so far as to call the police over the lights. Another witness described seeing about thirty to forty lights pass across the night sky.
Authorities were able to figure out what they think happened. In nearby Saltwell Park, a large amount of orange paper lanterns had been released into the night sky. Those paper lanterns apparently floated over Gateshead and other surrounding areas before ultimately going off over the sea. That would explain why witnesses described the lights as flying lower than an airplane. There is definitely reason to believe the paper lantern explanation.
The next incident seems similar at first. A witness in Smethick actually captured cell phone video of strange orange lights traveling in the night sky. So far the footage – which is reportedly fuzzy – has not been released. The difference in this case versus the sightings in Gateshead involves the issue of speed. The witnesses to this event reported the lights were moving quickly, too fast to be a hot air balloon or something like it. They could hear no noise, something that would obviously have indicated it was a helicopter.
UFO sightings in England have been common for some time. Claims made by former English officials about government involvement with UFO’s have increased interest in the subject.
The man who captured the cell phone video claimed to have not been drinking at the time.

Why don't you post pictures anymore??? I have a hard time reading your articles but the pictures make it more interesting for me. Please post more pictures and less words. Thank you.
For the love of God, WHY does the UK even bother to report "orange, silent ufo's" any more? Not only is it not worth reporting, but it does any serious study into truly unidentified aerial phenomena a huge disservice.
Cease and desist, PLEASE!
Chinese Lanterns are driving UFO researchers insane. There were many reports of them over the Fourth of July weekend. I even saw one myself here in my suburb hometown of 12,000 people.
Not all orange lights are lanterns as we have had some travel against stronge head winds and some have kept pace with fast cars on calm nights.

Pat, a Regan you are not! I think that this is a very serious matter. Don't dispell things that you don't understand, for someday they may come to haunt you (Chineese or not). You can give a call to explain yourself, just leave a message with my assistant Acceb.
i saw three of thease orange lights in gateshead on that saturday night on the 29th of august 09 at 21.35
im having trouble beleiving the lanternt story as the lights i saw were traveling fast and against the wind and were comming from over the team valley trading estate area and heading TOWARDS salwell park and NOT away from saltwell park witch the police stated that the lanterns were released from saltwell park , also the lights travelled south to wards low fell and the A1 motorway and not to the east and out towards the sea ??
I just have to ask, Bebee how old are you? What do you mean it is hard to read this guy's articles? If you are smarter than a 1st grader, nevermind a 5th grader, you should be able to read words & have moved beyond the picture "books". Did you really need to waste everyones time with your idioc complaints. Did I confuse you?
It is true...I was thinking I should also report to the police but I was afraid that they might go asking questions regarding different things as they usually do.But it is true I have seen the same 30-40 light on the 6th of September at about 9 o'clock pm over the town I live which is Epsom and Ewel. They were moving damn quick having a straight trajectory but in no formation and very silent.I looked for any blinking lights as our planes have but there were none.I have a friend with me and I stoped the car almost in the middle of the road filming with my mobile phone camera.Another couple started to film them as well on the sidewalk. The image is not very good as the town has lights and the flying things weren't very close but it is still easy to distinguish as my cell phone has 3.2 megapixels cam.
The lights were travelling South to North.

I sore orange lights and this is whats strange, becouse I sore 28 orange lights moving in a straight line across my street in Kingswinford,Wallheath.
This happened on the 26th september 11.00pm. People were waching the lights pass over. strange I dont think there lantins becouse of the different and constant reports.
Just to say that this is not a normal event becouse people are reporting these lights from all around the country, how can they be lantins is somebody letting them off around britain lol. I sore to many of them to be lantins. People cant face up to the facts that maybe theres something developing quiet rappidley. soz about spelling.
i live near saltwell park and after the latest bonfire night display, the whole sky was cloudy except a sector over the park, an orange light appeared, very high in the sky,in the centre and appeared to hover, moving only slightly. It stayed there for 2-3 minutes before gradually fading out and then dissapearing.
it was the 7th november 2009 and i was at a bonfire display on stafford rugby club and when the fireworks had finished the orange lights appeard in the sky they were quite high up and as they flew over the club half of the clubs power went off i have took pictures of them but cant post them on here, also i spoke to my friend on my xbox and he says he saw one orange light fly straight over him then faided away.
On 7th Nov 2009 at between 9.00 and 9.10pm, my partner and I saw 7(seven) UFO's travel across the sky at the back of our house, over the village of Woolpit, Nr Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. They travelled from south to north at the same height (approx 1000ft+) and they looked identical, like large orange lights. There was never more than 3 in the sky at any one moment and we could not hear them. There is no way that they were fireworks or chinese lanterns and they took about a minute to travel from horizon to horizon. We are used to seeing many planes and helicopters in the area but these were definately something very different. We are rational people and skeptical, but we have no explanation for what we saw.
Me and my partner were driving out of sheffield on sunday 8th when jo pointed at an orange light in the sky to our right . I initialy thought it was a flare but realised it wasnt flickering or moving at all . I pulled over then it started moving and went almost straight over us ( no noise) quite fast . When it was right overhead we could see part of the light moving back and forth (horizontaly) in the direction it was traveling . Its the weirdest thing ive ever seen . We got video on jo's phone after it had gone over but its not very good .
On the 14th of June 2009 my girlfriend and I saw two orange lights in the sky above Blandford Forum, Dorset Southern England. It was about 10:00 but being so near solstice the sun had not long set on this beautiful clear evening. We saw first one light moving at about aircraft speed from North to South. It was completely silent and quite close to the horizon, then it simply vanished. I watched first through binoculars then through the zoom lens of my camera and took pictures. Then about a minute later another light the same as the first appeared on exactly the same track and disappearing in the same place. I still have the pictures which quite clearly show bright orange disks with larger centres. I have e-mailed NASA, ( I couldn't think of anyone else) and had no reply, it's now November.
Both my girlfriend and I are in our 50's and University graduates, I believe we would be considered reliable witnesses, but what could the lights have been?
tonight in Christchurch New zealand i saw and orange floating candle like light in the sky, was at the pub but only had 2 pints, about 20 people saw it too outside, funny thing is im from Windsor and i saw the same thing maybe 12 years ago, this orange ufo thing is for real, and im a realist....
