With all the devastation that has recently occurred with the misuse of guns and endangerment of innocent lives, precautions were taken on Wednesday February 13, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Clay County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of some local students and teachers, conducted a mock hostage take-over and staged shootings of Everest University Orange Park campus.
The full-blown exercise was done to allow the Sheriff Department’s Hostage Negotiations and SWAT team members the opportunity to be ready for any situation that may possibly arise in the local area.
Sheriff Rick Beseler of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was on hand as his men jumped into action to defend the perimeter and defuse the situation. He said that it would be better to prepare and be ready for a hostile situation than to react to an actual encounter unprepared.
Also assisting in the drill were the Orange Park Police, Clay County Fire/Rescue and the Clay County Fire Departments. The makeup was created by the EOC (Emergency Operating Center) in Green Cove Springs, and highlight of the training was the participation of the astonishing armed vehicle, the new “Bear Cat” that’s worth over $300,000.00. From the Slide Show above, you will be able to see the vehicle and the heroic antics of the CCSO in action.
