"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of you teamming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" This poem is called the New Colossus and it was written by Emma Lazarus and is mounted on a plaque below the Statue of Liberty in New Jersey/New York.
Just as the Statue of Liberty stands to show hope to those that come to America from overseas, the Orange Park Medical Center stands bold, beautiful and recently expanded; to help those who come through its doors for healing, comfort, and refuge in a time of need. The Orange Park Medical Center is dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare in the community they serve. OPMC is committed to continually enhancing the standard of healthcare and wellness through safe, accessible, consistent and compassionate care. The medical center has been serving residents of Clay, Duval, St. Johns, Baker, and Bradford counties since it opened in 1974.
Upon driving by the Orange Park Medical Center, one would think that it is a facility for the elite of the Orange Park/Fleming Island area, but this ‘care center’ is for those who have ‘critical care needs’ (Emergency Room) and also the ‘little coughs due to colds’ (Express Care). This is a well-staffed Emergency/Trauma Center that just so happens to be in a county (Clay) near Jacksonville Florida. If there is a need, OPMC will cater to that need. It is NOT just a facility for elective surgeries, but a proficient place of relief and even miracles.
On November 4, 2011, the Orange Park Medical Center had a ribbon cutting ceremony to announce the expansion of its territories through new construction and renovations of the facility. The opening of the new areas has added additional capabilities, better accessibility and state-of-the-art modernization. The changes are beautiful. Take a look at the Slide Show to see some before and after photo changes.
Some new on-site additions include:
- Over 250 additional parking spaces around the facility.
- Emergency room renovations from 25 emergency department bays to 44 private rooms (including 2 trauma rooms that will allow surgery on critical patients).
- New ambulance drop-off areas.
- A new CAT Scan (Computerized Axial Tomography) unit.
- New Helipad area.
The OPMC is also in the process of creating new rooms in the hospital inpatient area (additional floors are being constructed as you read this American Inspired article in Community Leadership.
This writer has been treated a couple of times (“Broken Bones & Survival” and “Share Bear Project”) as an impatient and on an outpatient basis of the OPMC, and the same care given to Ms. “V” is given to each and every patient who comes through the hospital doors. Thank God for facilities like Orange Park Medical Center (Leader in Quality Care) and those who render care to the masses in the state of Florida.
