Dear LA Teacher,
With bookstores shutting their doors all over town, where can a mom purchase books for children and teens besides logging onto Amazon?
Dear Bookworm Mom,
There’s a special feel about a book when you check out its cover and read the blurbs to determine interest. Sunday, September 29, 2013 presents the perfect opportunity. Residents of Southern California will have the chance to meet over 100 popular authors and illustrators and more than 60 book exhibitors at the 10th Annual Orange County Children’s Book Festival. The event will be held at the Orange Coast College from 9:30 AM-4:30 PM.
At the Children’s Book Festival there will be four stages. The Main Stage will showcase the talents of the .Comm Dancers, juggler and storyteller Izzi Tooinski, with a ballerina and magician thrown into the mix.
Illustrators will be on another stage encouraging young artist talent. On the Animal Stage authors will share their stories that motivated their books like The Story of Chester by Susie Vanderlip.
On the Middle Grade/Teen/YA Stage authors like Randy Morrison, Michael Thal, and Tara Fairfield will discuss their books and perhaps read from their respective novels. At 3:00 there will be a panel discussion about writing contemporary fiction.
On the Storyteller Stage Sheri Fink will talk about her picture book, The Little Firefly, Poll Risk will speak on folktales around the world, and Ranger Rick will sing children’s songs on piano and guitar.
The Orange County Children’s Book Festival is a great place to buy books, talk with authors and illustrators, listen to professional storytellers, and get free family entertainment. Admission and parking are also free.
