Orange and blue to the rescue

Stress is when the alarm didn't go off, you're late for work, you run out of gas or get a flat tire, you spill coffee on your white/khaki clothes, you're past due on a payment, you forgot the big deadline was today, the baby is screaming, the phone will not stop ringing, and you gained 1.5 pounds in two days.  Luckily, beating stress is as simple as two colors: orange and blue.

Orange is a stimulating color which can instantly lift you out of a stressful situation, and surrounding yourself with the color can help stimulate creativity.  Eating orange foods also rescues you from stress factors. When you anticipate a stressful day, or have had a stressful day, snack on a serving of carrots.  The beta carotene that gives carrots their color depletes during stress, and the crunch helps relieve tension that is stored in jaw muscles.  Also, try oranges and cantaloupe for a vitamin C boost.  Vitamin C aides in immune support (which breaks down during stress) and also helps stress reduction.  These two fruits also have a high water content, which evaporates in stressful situations.

Blue is a calming color that can instantly relax you in a stressful situation.  Blue is often also associated with pleasant thoughts of nature, such as a calm sky and the ocean.  Who isn't relaxed when thinking about the beach?  Blue foods that reduce stress include blueberries and blue corn.  Once again, the crunch factor of the corn helps relieve jaw muscle tension and it has a great taste.  Blueberries are high in vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants, which help relieve stomach irritation caused by stress.  Blue also reduces appetite, which usually spikes with adrenaline increase.
