Optimize your Google local listing

In the last article we discussed using Google plus for your local business. You should have already signed up and got your free account. Now you’re ready to learn how to optimize your Google listing and get all that traffic that has been searching for you.

Optimizing the listing is not as hard as you might think, in fact your half way there. Now all you need to do is follow Google’ simple instructions and a few tips I will give you and you local listing should start to show up in the search results very soon.

Once you've created the listing you need to be sure that you fill in all the correct information about your business. Google will only ask for common information like, your hours of business, contact info, and address. They will also ask for a website this is where you can link an existing site (If you have one) to your local listing. If you do not have an existing website don’t worry about it, you can leave this area blank for now.

Perhaps, the most important part of your listing is the description area. This is where you get to tell potential customers a little bit about your business. Try to fill it completely, the more content you have here the better. Also, this is where you should have your keywords. For example, if your company is called Smith’s plumbing, your description should look something like this. “Smith’s Plumbing in Jacksonville,Fl is dedicated to providing quality to all of our customers.”

Another very important factor in getting your business to the top of the Google listings is to use as many photos as you can. For starters you have a cover photo and a profile photo, don’t leave these blank. This is the biggest mistake local businesses make. It has a huge impact on your ranking and it’s simple to do. To add the additional photos just click on the photo tab and choose some of your images to upload. A minimum of 5 images is required if you want your listing on the first page. This does not include the profile image or the cover photo. Use the company logo for the profile or cover image. This way customer will begin to recognize you online.
