In addition to Winfrey, Brad Pitt’s production company Plan-B is also among the list of producers for the film. “Selma” which is set to be directed by Ava DuVernay will chronicle the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches. Actor David Oyelowo who starred in DuVernay’s “Middle of Nowhere” and co-starred as Winfrey’s son in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” will star in “Selma” as Martin Luther King Jr.

This news comes as another king related project suffered a setback. The King film that was eyeing Jamie Foxx to play the iconic civil rights leader will have to find another director. Oliver Stone announced late last week that he'd left the project due to creative differences.

As for Winfrey she has served as a producer on other notable films including 2009’s Oscar winning film “Precious”, “The Great Debaters” from 2007 and 1998’s “Beloved”.
