Oprah Winfrey may be headed for the farming industry in the near future. Confirming her interest in organic farming Thursday, Winfrey says the idea could come to fruition if OWN does not work out.
"If this doesn't work out, I'm going to go into organic farming in Maui. And I'm not kidding," Winfrey said in an interview.
Winfrey's potential venture is not a bad one. According to GreenBiz, organic farming has increased continuously since 1997 with 2010 figures totaling around $29 billion. In comparison, traditional farming grew just 1 percent in 2010.
In related news, OWN will increase its line up in 2012 offering new programming including Winfrey's Next Chapter and a number of documentaries and docu-series. In 2011, the network aired programming including 'Sweetie Pies' and 'Why Not ? with Shania Twain,' both docuseries. There were also specials including never before seen moments on The Oprah Winfrey Show and the Fall launch of The Rosie Show.
