According to ESPN, Oprah Winfrey, David Geffen and Larry Ellison have a master plan to get together and take over ownership of the Clippers if the NBA forces Sterling to sell. Geffen details the plan stating that he would alongside Ellison run the team, while Oprah would be an investor. Geffen, a music film mogul with a net worth of $6.2 billion, was denied stake in the team in 2010 for $600 million by Sterling.
“Oprah is not interested in running the team...... She thinks it would be a great thing for an important black American to own [another] franchise."
“The team deserves a better group of owners, who want to win. Larry would sooner die than fail. I would sooner die than fail. Larry’s a sportsman, we’ve talked about this for a long time. Between the three of us, we have a good shot.”
On Tuesday Oprah was on CBS This Morning to promoting her Oprah Chai Tea line with Starbucks, and called out Sterling on his comments, saying what he said reminds her of "a plantation mentality in the 21st century, in 2014. It just doesn't fit." The talk show hosted requested immediate action to be taken on the matter stating "Something has to be done … like, now," and sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands.
Way to go Oprah!
