Oprah Winfrey is taking good care of her baby sister. According to a Feb. 20 report by People, the OWN CEO has purchased a $490,000 Wisconsin home for her half sister, Patricia Lofton. Not only that, the media mogul is paying for her little sis to go to college so she can achieve her goal of becoming a social worker.
According to E! News, the Wisconsin property boats four bedrooms and three baths.
Three years ago, Winfrey shocked her audience with the announcement of her newly found half-sister, who is nine years her junior. The women share the same mother, Vernita Lee.
On an episode of “Oprah: Where Are They Now,” Winfrey called Lofton “a remarkable human being,” and marveled over the “new experience“ of being “in a relationship with somebody who actually didn't want anything but was just there to be supportive of me.“
While she’s publicly embraced her new sister, in 2011 the talk show legend told Inside Edition that her deceased sister Pat sold her out for a $19,000 interview with The National Enquirer, in which she revealed that Oprah had a baby at age 14.
"My sister Pat going to the tabloids and telling the story about my having the baby, was a gift because it released me from the shame," Winfrey later said.
Lofton isn’t the first family member to get a real estate gift from the “Oprah Winfrey Show” host. In 2012, Oprah purchased her dad Vernon’s Nashville barber shop out of foreclosure for $475,000. Vernon’s wife, Barbara Winfrey, told WSMV-TV she had plans for a loan in place, but her husband refused to sign off on it, so Oprah bought it.
