If Oprah does sign on the dotted line, she'll be in rehearsal with Audra McDonald, a Tony winner, while another Tony winner, George C. Wolfe, will direct.
According to Scott Sanders, the primary producer for this play targeted at the 2015-2016 Broadway season which topically starts in Sept., Oprah has been wanting to play Broadway for some time.
Sanders says. '[Winfrey] understands how unique and challenging performing live on stage will be as an actress." He adds that the two of them have been considering an assortment of roles and plays "in order to find material and a character that truly resonate with her."
And then he dropped a hint of things to come, saying that the pair "recently read something that we’re both excited about but are not yet ready to officially announce the specifics."
So, is Oprah Winfrey Broadway bound? And is "Night, Mother" going to be the play that will be Oprah's debut on the Great White Way? Stay tuned.
