Oprah is winding down her last year as top female host of a talk show; and she has been going back in time; as well as interviewing people from a different perspective. She is trying to get to the heart of people and to allow the public here in Atlanta and elsewhere a look into the person not just the celebrity.
This Monday in her interview with Katherine Jackson, she will take a look at the Jacksons as a family. No matter what station in life a family may find themselves, they are and always will be family - during the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Many times the strength of any family is found in the mother. A true mother's love can be saddened; but not weakened even for a child who goes astray.
Michael Jackson’s life and tribulations are known to everyone all around the world. His bigger than life performances made him an icon with the dubbed title of “King of Pop!” Even those who did not “dig” his music and performances were intrigued with his long time career starting as such a small boy in “The Jackson Five.”
His weird lifestyle, his fascination with children and childhood fantasies such as the building of his Neverland Ranch, home, zoo, playground, has interested millions as well as his peculiar way of becoming a father and his even more peculiar ways of protecting his children.
While his death was a surprise to the world, it was not so with those who knew him. Oprah’s interview will show that his family tried to intervene in his addictions; but to no avail.
Oprah sat down in the backyard of Michael’s home in Encino with his mother and his three children. In her interview, she seeks to find out who the real Michael Jackson was, what the family knew and did about his addictions, and to find out how his children are doing now after some of the dust has settled.
Randy, Michael’s brother, is not happy with this interview and told everyone on Twitter that he was not even informed of the interview. He states that Michael would not have wanted this. And given the way he protected them from the public – even covering their faces – he may be right.
But none-the-less the interview will take place on the Oprah show tomorrow, Monday, November 8, 2010. While some people are just tired of hearing about him, there are many of Michael’s fans who still hang on to every tidbit they can find out about him.
When all the news was about the sensational coverage of his life and death, this author wrote about his mother. You can read the article, Katherine Jackson – a Mother’s Love at http://www.examiner.com/faith-family-in-atlanta/katherine-jackson-a-mother-s-love
She now has the awesome responsibility of raising his children and as with so many grandparents today who find themselves in this position, it is a real challenge. Just when you think you can relax and enjoy being a grandmother, all of a sudden you are a mother again.
