The first book on todays Super Soul Sunday book list is The Mindful Brain by Daniel J. Siegel. The complete title is
The Mindful Brain: Reflection and Attunement in the Cultivation of Well-Being "A new framework for maintaining mental health and well-being" (source).
I love the fact that humans are spiritual animals capable of keeping an open mind and also capable of critical thinking. Personally, I recognize patterns and take note of coincidences... all with the magical wonder of a child grown into a woman.... while managing to keep my superstitions in check and my beliefs sure. So, anytime I find access to a window of wellbeing that is framed by scientific research, I'm interested! Siegel is a teacher of mental health who approaches the art of mindfulness using a lens of neuroscience.
"The result is a groundbreaking approach to not simply mental health, but life in general, which shows readers how personal awareness and attunement can actually stimulate emotional circuits in the brain, leading to a host of physiological benefits, including greater well-being, resilience, emotional balance, and improved cardiac and immune function" (source)
Thanks goes to Oprah Winfrey for recommending Dr. Siegel's book. Also check out his earlier book, The Developing Mind.
Oprah also presented three books by Mitch Albom: Tuesdays With Morrie and Five People You Meet in Heaven.
Albom's third and most recent is a tear-jerker for anyone born to a woman called For One More Day. For One More Day is the story about loss, love and things left unsaid.
