Oprah’s OWN Network lawsuit: Carolyn Hommel blames pregnancy for job loss

Carolyn Hommel is suing Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network, claiming she was fired from her job as a senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at OWN because she got pregnant, Gossip Cop reported on Saturday, Feb. 1. Hommel filed the lawsuit against OWN Network in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday.

Hommel, who was hired in 2010 by Oprah’s OWN Network, allegedly had received positive performance reviews prior to taking a medical leave due to her pregnancy. Carolyn Hommel claims that the temporary employee who replaced her at OWN during her pregnancy medical leave “ultimately assumed more and more of her duties.” Hommel alleges that when she returned to her job one month after giving birth to her daughter, she was excluded from meetings.

Carolyn Hommel, who had been on track for a vice-president job at OWN, was supposedly told to reapply for that job, but was passed over.

Carolyn Hommel claims Michael Garner, her superior at OWN, “fabricated a performance review to diminish her previous responsibilities, ruining her chances at a promotion.

Carolyn says her dismissal was a direct result of her pregnancy medical leave, and is seeking unspecified damages.
