Oprah Winfrey’s BFF Gayle King has been hanging on the Big O’s coat tails for decades now. While, Gayle is certainly talented in her own right, those talents have primarily been showcased under the O brand. Gayle showed off her reporting skills during guest spots on the Oprah Winfrey Show and acted as Editor-at-Large of O Magazine, but rarely did we see Gayle without an O by her side. So, it was no surprise that Gayle landed her very own talk show on the OWN Network, the television network Oprah started when she retired from the talk show business. Now, after almost a year on the OWN Network as the host of The Gayle King Show Gayle will be moving on. She’s landed a spot as an anchor on CBS’s the Early Show.
It must be a bittersweet moment for Oprah whose network will lose Gayle and her talk show at a time when reports have surfaced that the network is suffering. At the same time, what a momentous occasion for Gayle to spread her wings and show the world she’s more than just Oprah’s best friend.
OWN issued a statement saying “We are so happy for Gayle's opportunity of a lifetime. She'll be a fantastic host for the new morning show on CBS and we wish her all the best.”
Gayle will be joined by Charlie Rose as a part of an Early Show revamp to compete with TODAY and Good Morning America. We wish Gayle the best of luck in her new role.
