Oprah is dealing with a lawsuit. On Feb. 2, TV Guide reported that her network OWN is being sued by a former employee. Carolyn Hommel filed the lawsuit. The woman is saying that she got pregnant and had to take medical leave. They then replaced her.
She did come back to work after having the baby, but she didn't get to go to the meetings she was usually at and then one month later was fired. She says she was on track to go high in the company before having her child.
At this time, it is unknown what damages she is seeking, but a lawsuit was filed against OWN. The lawsuit is for sex discrimination, disability discrimination, failure to prevent discrimination, retaliation and willful failure to pay wages upon discharge or termination according to The Hollywood Reporter.
With a large company like OWN and being backed by Oprah Winfrey, it is very likely this will never see court. They will probably just settle with her before it hits court but that is still to be seen.
