Tyler Perry sent a sweet and sweeping gesture to Oprah Winfrey for her 59th birthday. Unfortunately, the popular talk show hostess and megastar of the world of women may have exercised an overly sweeping gesture of her own, scooping up Perry’s fragrant flowers all at once.
Oprah, as she is most frequently known, strained her back, trying to tote an overabundance of blooms on her January 29 birthday. Clad in her pajamas and enjoying a relaxing day in her Chicago home with her long-time paramour, Stedman Graham, the birthday girl was surprised by the Alex Cross actor’s weighty gift.
Perhaps Winfrey would have been safer by recalling her oft-quoted statement, while hefting Perry's flowers. She once said, “You can have it all. You just can’t have it all at once.”
As his iconic comic character Madea Simmons would urge anyone to do in such a situation, Perry promptly showed his own backbone, posting an apology for his inadvertent part in Oprah’s injury.
“I feel so bad,” Perry wrote January 30 on his Facebook page.
“I like to send really large flower arrangements to people for whatever occasion. Well, I sent one to Oprah yesterday for her birthday. She strained her back picking it up. No joke! Feel better Oprah. Happy birthday. Sorry. :-( Next year I'm sending her one rose. :-)"
The chat-star, who posted an Instagram photo of the flowers on her Twitter page, is expected to make a full recovery.
With the best of intentions, Perry likely aimed only to demonstrate his own popular quote. “What I’ve learned is, you treat women right.”
Madea couldn’t have said it better.
