Many people like to talk about donating their money to charities, but they don’t always go through on their word. Oprah Winfrey, on the other hand, does. A list, which was compiled by The Giving Back Fund, is basing these numbers off their donations and contributions in 2009. The Giving Back Fund creates and manages charitable foundations for celebrities, business entrepreneurs and corporations.
Oprah is considered the most charitable celebrity out there. She gave away more than $40 million through her Oprah Winfrey Foundation for several causes like education and programs for women and children, according to People Magazine.
Novelist Nora Roberts was in second with donating $4.45 million to the Norah Roberts Foundation, which supports literacy in underserved communities. Actress Meryl Streep was in third for donating $4 million to the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts.
Marc Pollick, president of The Giving Back Fun said:
"There are many generous celebrities, but when you can top a list of celebrity philanthropists three out of four years, as Oprah has, that is saying something.”
