Fans of Oprah Winfrey's tv show and book club will be thrilled to hear that the former talk-show maven is bringing her book club back in a big way. Oprah's Book Club 2.0 is taking Oprah's love of great books to the Internet, with a more interactive format. Oprah has always said that when she reads a great book, she hungers to discuss it. With Book Club 2.0, she's reaching out to the entire online world. In a video on her website, Winfrey announces not only how the new book club will function, but also the inaugural selection.
An advocate for ebook readers, Winfrey is making this book club more tech-savvy. Instead of tuning into her talk show to see the discussion, readers can now login to Facebook and Twitter to discuss the books with other fans, and maybe even Winfrey herself. In addition to the social media aspect, Winfrey states that the ebook versions of the book will come enhanced with Book Club 2.0 content exclusive to the digital format.
So what is the first book? Nonfiction readers will be thrilled to read Cheryl Strayed's memoir, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Coast Trail. The book follows the author on her 1,000+ mile hike, which Winfrey describes as incrdeibly brave. While fiction fans may be disappointed with this first selection, we can surely look forward to future selections.
