Opps for new & emerging actors, dancers & writers arise in May

For its upcoming production of The King and I, The Marriott Theatre will hold general auditions for young performers on Monday, May 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 .m. at the Actors' Equity Association/Member Center on 557 W. Randolph Street in Chicago. Asian actors (male and female) able to play 5-to-15 years of age are welcome as well as caucasian boys able to play 8-to-10 years old. Auditions for non-union adult actors will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. All applicants must bring an updated headshot, résumé, music, and be prepared to sing. Lyric Opera of Chicago is auditioning trained dancers with classical ballet experience, including pointe work, and acting experience for its upcoming production Capriccio by Richard Strauss. Dancers should bring both ballet slippers and pointe shoes to the audition. Lyric will hire two couples to play one couple (one man/one woman each) with the intention of rotating performances and understudy assignments between them. Rehearsals begin September 15, with seven performances October 6 through 28. Auditions will be held on May 12 at the Civic Opera House on 20 N. Wacker Drive in Chicago. Lyric is also auditioning highly-trained dancers with strong technique in contemporary dance styles and dramatic stage experience for Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser to be staged by Tim Albery from February 9 through March 6, 2015 with rehearsals in December 2014. Six solo female dancers (plus one cover) and six solo male dancers (plus one cover) will be hired. Auditions will be held on May 24-25 at Joffrey Tower on 10 E Randolph Street in Chicago. Victory Gardens Theater is seeking theatrical submissions for its Ignition Festival on July 21-27. "As Victory Gardens Theater’s season programming continues to reflect the diverse communities in the city of Chicago, we are excited to open up Ignition 2014 applications to not only writers of color, but to all playwrights for the first time,” explains Chay Yew.
