State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione and Sen. Brian Birdwell, both Republicans have filed campus carry legislation, which has been in the forefront of debate for some time now. These bills have been filed before, met with opposition and placed on the back burner, but last week’s Lone Star College, even though both legislators deny it, have made the issue a priority.
Numerous conceal weapon carry bills have been introduced in the Texas 83rd legislative session, but a national movement, this current administration and mainstream media is attempting to derail the hot button issue that’s spreading like wild fire across the nation.
"What happened at Lone Star College is of grave concern to all. It's a blessing that no one was killed," Capriglione wrote in an email, noting that he had planned on filing the bill prior to the incident. "We must ensure that law-abiding citizens are allowed to defend themselves when attacked."
Over the weekend in Houston, the police were busy investigating a deadly shooting at a home in which, ‘two suspects walked into the home and shot multiple people and killed one of them.' Certainly, this is a case of the occupants of the house placed in a situation in which they could not defend themselves. Note with grave concern, the two suspects had weapons. HPD suspects this shooting to be drug related.
When party crashers got into an altercation at a birthday party, they were forced to leave, but before leaving the home, they sprayed the home with gunfire. Two men were injured in that incident. This is another case in which the occupants didn’t have the ability to defend themselves, but the bad guys had the ability to freely and indiscriminately inflict pain and suffering on the innocent.
"My intent is to affirm the rights of the law-abiding," Birdwell said. "When you tell the law-abiding that they can't excercise a God-given, constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms, you make them subject to the tender mercies of the criminal element that would do them harm and you make them defenseless against that element."
Being defenseless against the element is something the opposition has never faced, yet they are experts, but only in the form of manipulation of the means by which to spread they’re non-expertise on any subject.
