In the last year, there has been a great deal of highly publicized school shooting and violence in schools.
Today, another episode of violence made national news, when it was reported that a teacher in Massachusetts was found murdered. A student at the school where she taught was under arrest, charged with her murder.
There are many factors which may have contributed to this increase in violence we now see in schools. Most children spend a great deal of time watching violent shows on TV and playing violent video games in their spare time. While these video games and TV shows are not to blame alone, they may play a part in the violence; children often want to imitate the things they see. It is up to parents to monitor their child's behavior, and to play a large role in their life. Parents should also make sure to monitor their child's time spent online, and what Tv shows are being watched in their homes. Even teenagers need their parents.
It is unclear what exactly caused the alleged murder of the teacher in Massachusetts, but no matter what comes of this case, it is a tragedy nonetheless.
What role do you think parents should play in the prevention of violence in schools?
