Despite my issues with the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, they occasionally get things right. This year it’s the nomination of Guns N’ Roses. And with this nomination comes a golden opportunity. A GIANT OPPORTUNITY! There is a tradition at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where bands put aside their differences and perform together. Of all the scenarios one can think of (and I’ve thought of many including a reality show) this is probably the one most likely to succeed.
If the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame can pull off the miracle of getting Slash and Axl to bury the hatchet they will be on the road to redemption with the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal community. However, until bands like Rush, Motorhead, and Kiss are given the nominated, the grudge will remain even if they get GNR to reunite.
Getting back to Guns, the next question is ‘which line up do you want to see?’ Personally, I’m for both: the “Appetite” line up with Steven Adler and Izzy Stradlin and the “Use Your Illusion” version with Gilby Clarke, Dizzy Reed, and Matt Sorum. Both lineups were significant to the success and musical growth of Guns N Roses. Both versions have their fans and fit the music of their respective eras. Hell, let them all play together as a super group.
Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame this is your opportunity to perform the biggest miracle in Rock N’ Roll history. Get your ass working on this right now! And if you fail…well it was a noble failure. As for Axl and Slash, guys its time. That is all.
