Opie & Anthony have reportedly renewed their contracts with Sirius XM for the next two years, but there's still no news about Howard Stern.

The announcement that O&A are locked in at Sirius XM until 2012 hasn't quelled the anxiety for Howard Stern Show fans or Sirius XM stockholders who have been waiting on a similar announcement regarding the King of All Media's future plans.

Check out photos of some of the biggest stars to visit Sirius XM studios this year including Jessica Alba, David Gray, Faith Evans and more in the slideshow below

The Opie & Anthony announcement means, at least, that Sirius XM expects to be in business until 2012, which would seem to offer evidence that Howard Stern is sticking around.  Unless, of course, Sirius XM is just trying to batten down the hatches before Howard Stern makes a devastating announcement about retirement.

The real question is, will there even be a satellite radio company for Opie & Anthony to broadcast from if Howard Stern jumps ship in January?

Can Sirius XM survive without Howard Stern? Vote in the poll below

Sirius XM's stocks have been climbing in recent weeks and one analyst even suggested that Sirius XM is likely to do better without Howard Stern on the payroll.

The Howard Stern Show is on vacation this week and the self-proclaimed King of All Media has given his audience no clues about when he plans to make the announcement about his future with the company.

Stephen!!!! What's your problem, buddy? She's just reporting! She only does news related to Howard Stern, so she has to obviously not only show positive news about him, but from both sides. What are you attacking her for.....? Sheesh
Liz, I think.... Sirius/XM will go on without Stern, but.... if they believe that w/out his listeners they'll lose hundreds of thousands of subscribers - then they'll have to cut the membership fees to $9, maybe $7 a month.
Personally, when I could afford Sirius, I listened to mostly Playboy Radio and Maxim Radio (Stars Too). I signed up not 'cause of Stern, but 'cause of Jenna Jameson's show, which got canceled on Playboy radio before I got to hear it it. Stern would be a fool to change anything... he's got all he needs there, and he's been there for years, He should accept less money if the company is in financial turmoil, in fact. He's got plenty of money as is, I'm sure.

    o&a licks donkey dong.

The fact that O and A occasionally enjoy a donkey dong has nothing to do with the quality of their show. They put on a great show, and are very entertaining. Plus they have lil Jimmy. I really don't think Ethal Blumpkin should be bringing their personal lives into this.

Oh my god, you are the dumbest person alive. Because O and A have signed on through 2012, that means Sirius is going to be in business and that can only happen if Howard sticks, so you think Howard is close to signing? Seriously, why do you have to be so stupid? Even somebody that doesn't like Howard acknowledges that he has had an impact, but to suggest that Sat Radio would fail to exist without him may be the dumbest thing ever written and that is saying a lot because you have written some pretty dumb shit.

Sam, it fine if she wants to write only positive stuff about Howard, but at some point even she needs to touch reality.

Hollywood made a movie about Sirius XM--and predicted all this. DVD is at www.stockshockmovie.com

Editorializing yes, reporting no. And not that there's anything wrong with having an opinion. She (Liz) thinks the sun rises and sets out of Hoohoo's asshole, I on the other hand think he's a washed up pile of used hemorrhoid wipes.

There is simply no way that Sirius should continue with the existing terms of Stern's contract. Relative to all other on air talent he is grossly overpaid and under-delivers. And no, I'm not a long time "pest". I only found O&A (no thanks to either XM or Sirius's advertising efforts) about four years ago and long before that I couldn't stand Stern.

While the Stern show remains somewhat decent. Stern himself is no longer a draw. Talking about his horsefaced wife all day. His satelite experiement has failed. He will hang it up.

O & A on the other hand went through some rough years with the show but are back stronger than ever.
I listen to both, prefer to have both on but realize that Stern is done.

I used to listen to Howard , and i do agree is has some what of a Draw , but don't give him that much credit , pre-merger XM & Sirius were both on the same subscriber growth and the fact is not all of his audience came to follow him on satalite show or else they would have had an 8 - 10 million subscriber bump when he went to Sirius.

Since that did not happen (although he deserves credit for growth) he is currently Grossly Over Paid , takes way too many Vacations and works 4 days a Week not to mention Limo expenses and other expenses causing the company to just bleed out cash.

I personally rather like to listen to a show thats on 5 days a week cause i don't take fridays off.

    Hoo hoo hoo, Tell'em Fred!

    Nice article Liz .

Quick Question. Does a Howard Stern Examiner just have to work 1 day a month or do you spend your time Trolling old 90's era articles on him from back when people actually cared about him.

baba booey, baba booey, baba booey, baba booey, baba booey, baba booey, baba booey, baba booey.

what ... I'm bringing it back.

Liz, you are a dumb bitch! We all know you love Howard. So What!!! Keep listening to him and stop writting about Opie and Anthony. Obviously you do this because the only way you can drive traffic to this website is by putting the words Opie and Anthony in your articles. Like it or not, the Opie and Anthony show is great. I dont listen to anything else on Sirius XM. Sirius XM will be fine without Howard that old lady! So piss off, and Good Riddance to Howard (Hoo HOO) Stern!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

They pay stern millions of dollars, So im sure if he doesn't renew the contract they would be saving tons of doe. He isn't as big as he used to be, so I'm sure sirus/xm will be fine as long as regular radio still sucks.
