Featured in the "Power Hungry" deck, Ophiomancer is a powerful new "Magic: The Gathering" card from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming multiplayer product "Commander (2013 Edition)." This rare black creature can produce a steady supply of 1/1 black Snake creature tokens with deathtouch.
Ophiomancer - 2B
Creature - Human Shaman
At the beginning of each upkeep, if you control no Snakes, put a 1/1 black Snake creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.
"There are dark, ancient arts that fascinate even me."
The 1/1 black Snake creature tokens with deathtouch make a great preventative measure against your opponent attacking you. They'll lose their best creature unless it has flying, first strike, or protection from black. If your rival's creature doesn't have trample then it's no use to attack with just one threat: They'll need to use many.
Ophiomancer says "each upkeep," not just your own. That means cards which allow you to sacrifice creatures for a benefit, such as Shattergang Brothers or Tymaret, the Murder King, work especially well when you have an Ophiomancer to crank out the fodder for them. If you have a Dark Prophecy on the battlefield you'll also get to draw a card. One card that's particularly fantastic alongside Ophiomancer is Purphoros, God of the Forge. With a free to activate sacrifice outlet in a five player game, you'll be able to make all of your opponents lose 10 life by the time it's back to your turn.
Because it's great ability and low toughness, Ophiomancer may find itself the target of burn spells such as Lightning Strike or Pillar of Flame. An Xathrid Necromancer will allow you to gain even more value out of Ophiomancer should it die from unnatural causes.
How will you use Ophiomancer?
