Authors Harlan Coben, Phillip Margolin, F. Paul Wilson, Kathleen Antrim and Heather Graham recently joined together to participate in Operation Thriller IV. Since 2010, these and other members of the International Thriller Writers (ITW) have acknowledged the contributions made by American troops through this annual tour of military stations abroad.
The 2013 event, which began Oct. 24, was sponsored by the USO and included visits to sites in Kuwait, Germany and the U. K. The participants began their journey in the U.S., however, with three-day visit to the Washington D.C. area that included a trip to the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir.
They then proceeded to Camp Arifjan and Camp in Kuwait and to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and the USO Warrior Center in Germany. The tour concluded in the U.K. on Nov. 1.
The five writers used each stop as an occasion to show their gratitude to members of the U.S. military for their service and their sacrifices. "As thriller writers, we write about larger-than-life heroes, but nothing that we write can compare to the real life heroes in our military," commented former ITW co-president Kathleen Antrim in a USO press release. "It is such an honor to travel with the USO and spend time with our real heroes."
This marks the first Operation Thriller tour for Coben, Margolin, Wilson and Graham. Antrim also participated in ITW's 2012 event.
