Operation End Waste

Operation End Waste is a high school organization committed to significantly reduce the amount of lunchroom waste that is produced by Interlake everyday. I met with Sarah Braun, Isaku Kamada and Tyler Okamoto to learn how this project is developing. (Ryan Patel is also part of the project) This team wants to get composting at their high school so the huge component of food waste can be reduced.

As you can see by the graph, 48% of the daily cateria food waste is almost half!

The team has raised enough funds through t-shirt sales for the first month, and are now looking to raise funds for a sustainable program to raise awareness of waste reduction through composting. The compost will go to Cedar Grove composting for other people to use and/or for the horticultural department at their own school. The team intends to have four 96 gallon compost carts for a monthly expense of $77.61. The first year annual coast is estimated to be $388.07 for 5 months and $776.14 for the second year for 10 months.

This team is well-organized with a worthwhile mission. Their goal is to have a pilot program that encourages students at other high schools to do the same. They are set up with an ASB account at Interlake where businesses can deposit the donations.  If you know of a corporate sponsor that would like to help a great cause while getting recognition please contact cas.wastereduction@gmail.com
