Ireen Wust, an openly bi Dutch speedskater, captured both gold and silver at the Sochi Olympics. First gold, in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 4:00.34, then silver, in the women's 1000 meters with a time of 1:14.69. Wust is 27 years old.

She previously won gold in the Vancouver Olympics for the 1500 meter and in Torino for the 3,000 as well as Bronze for the 1500.

She's also been dominant in the World All-Round Speed Skating Championships, medaling every year since 2007 with four golds, one silver and two bronze.

Wust came out in an October 2009 interview with TVM Helden, a Dutch magazine, when she mentioned that she had been in a relationship with a woman for several months and was happy. That woman was fellow Netherlands speedskater Sanne van Kerkhof. Later they broke up and Wust is now dating a man. The 26 year old Kerkof, who is openly lesbian, is Wust's Netherlands Olympic teammate but has not medaled yet in Sochi.

Wust got in a bit of trouble for "cuddling" with Putin but as you can see in the accompanying video, he just gave her a brief congratulatory hug for winning a gold medal.

Many media outlets have been incorrectly reporting that Ireen Wust is gay, even though she is out as bisexual and is currently dating a man. What else is new.

Wust plans to compete in the Speed Skating Ladies' Team Pursuit: quarter finals are on Feb 21, semi-finals and the final are on Feb 22.
