Even New York City needs to shut down for Labor Day on Sept. 2, 2013. That is if one is a government worker! News has reported that government offices will be closed in New York City. But there are still tons to do in the city to celebrate the remainder of a glorious three day weekend.
In the event of rain, make it a museum day. All museums are open. A great way to see New York’s finest museums is on Museum Mile. There one can find several different cultural and historical museums such as The Jewish Museum. Two favorite museum destinations are also the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.
How about making it a cultural day? The West Indian Day parade starts at 11 a.m. on Eastern Parkway heading towards Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. This will end all of the Caribbean festivities that have been going on for the past five days. After the parade, take some time out to go to the African American Burial Grounds and remember the many who risked their lives to build the great city of New York.
So enjoy this extra day to travel or see the city as a tourist if living here. There is tons to do, and it is guaranteed that the city will be as lively as usual on this last day off of school and work until winter.
