You are cordially invited to the FREE Opening Reception for the Herberger Art Gallery’s new exhibition, “Personal Panethnicity: When the Color of my Face is only Part of the Story.” The event will take place this Friday, May 2, 2014 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at the Herberger Art Gallery.
Personal Panethnicity plays on society’s pre-formed assumptions about people and cultures based on ethnic stereotypes in order to explore the basis for these ideas, and ultimately, to break them.
Guest curated by Heather J. Kirk, Personal Panethnicity features artwork from eighteen artists of various ethnicities, in an effort to explore how their ethnic backgrounds inform, but do not determine or define their respective styles and genres of art. As you browse the works of art, you will also have the pleasure of experiencing a spoken word performance by WisdomSOUL.
If you can’t make it to the gallery for the reception, all artwork will be on display and available for purchase through September 1, 2014. A portion of the proceeds from each piece sold benefits the Herberger Theater Center’s Arts Education and Youth Outreach Programs. The Herberger Art Gallery is open weekdays from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, and during theater performances.
The Arizona Center Garage will be offering $3 parking for Herberger Theater Center patrons for this event. You may purchase parking vouchers online here or from Herberger Theater Center staff at the reception.
