Thursday, February 17th, was opening day for Stitches West 2011 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Our fair metropolis is the host to a knitting expo of epic porportions. Opening day at Stitches West saw hundreds of knitters participating in classes and events the expo had to offer. If you missed opening day, you shouldn't worry because there are still several more days of Stitches West and Stitches West Etc. to come.

Opening day at Stitches West began with the Opening Day Spotlight: Not So Crazy. Knitters Myra Wood, Barbera Kerr and Gwen Bortner discussed patchwork knitting, which is, knitting squares and shapes then piecing them together like quilters do. They shared their designs and techniques as well as their knitting inspiration.

Opening day participants were also treated to a luncheon and a preview of the amazing Stitches Marketplace. There were also a number of interesting knitting classes available.

Stitches West continues today, (Friday, Feb. 18th), until Sunday, February 20th, with Stitches West Etc. following on Monday and Tuesday, February 21st and 22nd.

If you can't make it to any of the Stitches West classes then you should at least go to the marketplace. Tickets for the Stitches Market are still available online. There is a $2.00 off coupon for the market tickets available. If you are a knitter who loves to shop then the Stitches West Marketplace should not be missed.

Knitting Universe is also streaming live the events from Stitches West 2011. So even if you are unable to attend all the events you can still watch it live on your computer, as well as check out awesome photos from this huge knitting event.

This weekend San Jose will be teeming with knitting fun which is not to be missed. With so many ways to participate in Stitches West 2011 it will be difficult not to check it out. Hope to see you there.
