Tuesday, October 29, 2013 marked the beginning of what is surely a yearly trek for many south Floridians: opening day at Knaus Berry Farm. People travel from near and far and stand in amusement park-length lines to get their hands on the famous Knaus Berry Farm cinnamon rolls. The post announcing the beginning of the season, which runs from now through April 19, 2014, has over 1,700 likes on their Facebook page. To say that Knaus Berry Farm has a loyal and large following is an understatement.
When this Examiner went on her own annual trip to Knaus Berry Farm on opening day at 4:00pm, the lines were long and all the cinnamon rolls had sold out for the day. Not wanting to leave emptied handed, and based on the employee's statement of "Try the pecan rolls, they're like our cinnamon rolls, but with pecans!" the pecan rolls were bought and tried. If you love cinnamon rolls and also love pecans, then you will surely love these pecan rolls. The rolls really are exactly like the cinnamon rolls, just baked on top of sticky, candied pecans. The only downside to the pecan rolls is that they are sold by the pan ($10.50/pan) versus being sold individually ($0.80), by the half dozen ($4.35), and by the dozen ($8.25) like the cinnamon rolls, so your only option is to buy a pan, which, when you think about it, is not really a downside at all.
Knaus Berry Farm is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00am to 5:30pm. Orders can be called in ahead of time during the week by calling (305) 247-0668. The farm is located at 15980 SW 248 Street
in Homestead, Florida. If you go this weekend, make sure to take cash (credit cards are not accepted) and expect long lines. For more on Knaus Berry Farm, visit their website, Facebook page, or contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
