Open the Door to Plato's Closet

"Beauty of style and harmony and grace and rhythm depend on simplicity." PLATO

Most people do not associate Plato the philosopher with fashion, his previous comment on beauty of style notwithstanding.  But there is a store for OC thrift’n-istas of the teenage or young adult persuasion that will have them philosophizing about their savings with Plato- Plato’s Closet that is.  Plato’s Closet is a boutique style shop with a large selection of gently used clothing and accessories.  Filled with brand name items- Abercrombie and Fitch, Aeropostale, Juicy Couture, Lei, True Religion and Lucky brands to name a few- Plato’s Closet is a go-to place for a young or young-minded someone shopping for jeans, T-shirts, tops, shoes, hoodies, purses, accessories and more.

Located at 3814 South Bristol Street #C Santa Ana, CA 92704 (714-549-8800), it is right down the street from South Coast Plaza and behind McDonald’s.  The store is large and clean and the personnel are very helpful and available for questions.   This is not like a shopping excursion to some dingy secondhand thrift store.  Plato’s Closet may offer secondhand goods, but it has the appearance and arrangement of a Ross or TJ Maxx.  Items are grouped in categories, sizes, color-coordinated and in very good condition.

Prices are quite reasonable.  The day I visited Plato’s Closet there was a sale in progress- the markdowns started as low as $2.  There was a great assortment of nice T-shirts, jeans or tops for $5 and $7.  Even the items not on sale were reasonable, often averaging $6-$10.  For anyone who has to have that certain brand, check out Plato’s Closet first so you do not pay full price somewhere else.  For instance Ed Hardy fans would have found a cute Ed Hardy purse or some great designed Ed Hardy men’s t-shirts each for $10.   A Juicy Couture hoody sweatshirt was going for $25.  Designer jeans by 7 For All Mankind were $50, some True Religion and Rock and Republic jeans were priced at $65.

Make note that Plato’s Closet also pays customers for their clothing.  Customers can raid their closets for their “old” trendy styles and turn them in to make a little immediate cash.  The clothing, shoes and accessories that Plato’s Closet will accept must be in good condition, current style, freshly laundered and folded neatly in boxes or shopping bags. Not all items will be accepted due to condition, brand or inventory levels.  Check with the store for buying hours.

So follow Plato’s advice about beauty of style and simplify your life with some great fashion bargains.  Go to Plato’s Closet by South Coast Plaza.  For coupons or sales information about the store, go to www.platosclosetsouthcoast.com or http://www.facebook.com/platoscloset

Cathy has spent many hours going to thrift stores and estate sales over the years, and has discovered multiple bargains and unusual finds amidst the clutter. Thrifting is an awesome way to shop if you do not mind forsaking the ambiance of the usual OC department store or mall, and digging a bit. ...
