Open space Boulder

Boulder loves its open spaces. Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 5430 feet above sea level, there is natural beauty and endless outdoor recreation year round. Over 45,000 acres of land has been preserved and protected. Wildlife habitat, unique geologic features, greenways and 144 miles of trails are all part of Boulder's Open Space & Mountain Parks.

Rare and beautiful plants include Rocky Mountain Sedges, Prairie Gentians, Ute Ladies' Tresses Orchids, Rattlesnake Ferns and Grass Ferns. Also, Peregrine Falcons, Prairie Falcons and Golden Eagles nest in the rocky crags each year. Seasonal wildlife closures protect these great birds, so check the trails for posted signs to prevent disrupting fragile habitats.

Whether you’re a Boulder resident, or visitor, take advantage and explore some of Boulder’s open spaces. Boulder’s Open Spaces & Mountain Parks also offers free topical nature hikes (ecology, wildlife, local history), educational and children’s programs.
