Akron, Ohio (April 18, 2012) – OPEN M, a neighborhood, faith-based organization dedicated to serving the underprivileged in the Akron community, will host its 8th Annual Walk for Kids fundraiser on Saturday, May 5 at Silver Springs Park, The Heritage Barn, in Stow. Summa Health System is the Walk for Kids Event Sponsor. Akron General Health System, Akron Children’s Hospital and Superior Staffing are the picnic sponsors of the event. About 400 walkers will convene at the park to support OPEN M. The goal is to raise $50,000 to support the OPEN M education programs and overall mission. Registration begins at11 a.m. with the walk starting promptly at noon.
This year, we’ve decided to take our Walk for Kids to a beautiful park that is both wheelchair-friendly and stroller-friendly. The focus for the Walk is to promote healthy well-being both physically, emotionally and spiritually - all while raising money for the education programs at OPEN M. The education programs at OPEN M reach out to at-risk teens to offer them a leadership/mentoring classes to better their resources for the future. We are also in the process of adding new programs for children ages 5 and under.
This years’ Walk for Kid’s location offers a variety of family fun so you can make a whole day out of the event! Some of the amenities of the park include: a fenced in dog park with lake, catch and release fishing (bring your own gear), playground for all ages, basketball area, and open area for picnics and play.
Our goal is to have each walker raise $100 by asking friends, relatives and co-workers for donations. Most walkers raise much more than that! For every $100 turned in to OPEN M before the day of the walk, you will receive a free tote bag!
