In one of the hardest hit Ohio communities, an organization steps forward to assist their residents by working with dedicated volunteers. These volunteers work with the board of trustees to provide local outreach to northeast Ohio to bring the community together.
Welcome to Opportunity for People Everywhere in Need Ministry, OPEN M, the ministry can be found online http://www.openm.org/ Established in 1968, OPEN M has committed itself to assisting the local, surrounding communities and its citizens by expanding resources. The organization commits to feeding the hungry, assisting the sick and strengthen the community with outreach programs.
Tina Thelin, Events and Volunteer Coordinator of OPEN M shares her reason for joining the growing movement of this organization:
I experience the joy of working with all of our volunteers and placing them in their valuable roles
The events help to sponsor the on-going resources OPEN M provides to its community through its ministry. These resources include;
health care through free medical, dental and eye clinics and nutrition through numerous food programs. Assisting families out of poverty and into self-sufficiency through an innovative program, Bridges Out of Poverty, and other family development initiatives.
Thelin revels in the creation, organization and promotion of OPEN M events which include the following:
- Day of Purse-Suation on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from Noon to 3pm at Max McQ’s Merriman Valley – Lunch and Purses, accessories, etc for men and women, donation is $10
- Walk for Kids on Saturday, May 4, 2013 – Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath behind Spaghetti Warehouse in Downtown Akron (510 S. Main Street, Akron) One mile walk
- Golf Outing on Monday, August 5, 2012 at Fox Den Golf Course
With the generosity of local citizens and hard-working volunteers, Thelin and OPEN M's future goals are to continue expanding their resources, the volunteer base and to further strengthen the community. Faith-based initiatives are the fundamental essence of this organization, something both Thelin and OPEN M refer to:
