While people who work for and those who receive benefits from the U.S. government will face the hardship of missed work time, smaller paychecks and delayed benefits, the people responsible for the government shut down will continue to receive all of the money that they have not worked for.
Paying senators and congressmen while they are allowing the government to shut down is akin to giving any employee money for a job that he or she has decided not to do. The job of governing the country is to figure out how to make compromises that make sense and that make the country better.
Those who make a stand on principal are hypocritical (but Americans expect that from their politicians) and, more importantly, injurious to the country.
It doesn’t matter what state the senator or the congressman is from, his or her job is to make sure that the United States can continue to be the mediocre country that it has become under the continued misleadership of the Republican Party.
It would be awesome if Americans could trust their so-called leaders to actually choose to do the right thing rather than the thing that best benefits their thirst for power and the demonstration of that power so that everyone can see it.
Politicians in D.C. need to clue into the melting middle class and the growth in wealth of the one percent, and they need to make decisions based on that. Any other policy threatens to make the United States a third world country.
