Onwuka nets late brace, but Bohs bounced by Harrisburg in Open Cup third round

Kingsley Onwuka came off the bench midway through the second half to score two late goals for the Bohemians, but the visiting Harrisburg City Islanders had a pair of two-goal scorers themselves, as they defeated Baltimore, 4-2, in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup third round clash Wednesday night.

The USL Pro side got into the action after just eight minutes, as a shot from James McLaughlin caromed off Baltimore keeper Andrew Harris and found the feet of Morgan Langley, who popped home the rebound from inside the six.

Just after the half-hour mark, McLaughlin was again involved in Harrisburg's second goal, this time, he netted it himself. A pass from Jose Barill found the midfielder, who proceed to curl in a beautiful shot past Harris into the top right corner of the net.

Six minutes later, the visitors made it three, as Andrew Harris was judged to have fouled a Harrisburg player inside of the box. McLaughlin doubled his goal tally, slotting the penalty low to Harris' left.

Baltimore's initial substitution in the 68th minute saw Kingsley Onwuka replace Brandon Allen, and the three-year Bohemian veteran paid instant dividends. Eight minutes after entering, Onwuka dribbled swiftly up the right side and slotted home a low drive from an acute angle past the City Islanders netminder, Brian Sylvestre.

Just when it seemed that Baltimore might have a lifeline, it was quickly snuffed out ten minutes from the end. After a long run from the right side, Langley unleashed a drive from 20 yards that sliced through the air and hit the top right corner for his second marker of the night, and Harrisburg's fourth.

Onwuka got his brace three minutes from time, after he coolly headed in a wonderfully weighted cross from Malcolm Harris on the far side of the pitch.

Things ended on a sour note for the hosts in the 90th, as Matt Shinsky was shown a straight red for a rough challenge.

Harrisburg moves on to play the Philadelphia Union in the fourth round of the Open Cup on June 17th. Baltimore continues PDL play on Saturday, as they face New Jersey-LUSO Parma at Paul Angelo Russo Stadium.
