Today the Fort Worth Stockyards were a buzz of activity with locals and visitors in for the Fourth of July weekend. The Stockyards Trinity River Trip and the Grapevine Fun Train were running their usual schedule and the cattle drive came by right on time. But today there was also a special treat as a crowd gathered for the opportunity to hear a live performance of Trachtenkapelle Rossatz. They performed concert and chamber music in addition to traditional Austrian folk music with hometown pride next to a huge Texas flag.

Only two more performances locally

Trachtenkapelle Rossatz is a leading brass orchestra from the city of Krems, Austria, one of the sister cities to Grapevine, TX. This orchestra performed in public for the first time in 1961with only 12 members, all men. Since that time Trachtenkapelle Rossatz has grown to over 70 members, including men and women of all ages. They usually perform in full traditional Austria attire, but with this Texas heat, today’s performance was t-shirts and shorts. Some members were even donning cowboy hats as they embraced the Texas culture. This did not take away from the wonderful sounds by this very talented group of musicians. They have performed all over the world sharing their love of music and their culture.

Krems is located in the lower part of Austria with a population of about 24,000. As sister cities both Grapevine and Krems work together to share cultural, educational and professional experiences to learn from one another.

The members of this orchestra are here not only to share their music and culture but to learn about ours. So let’s show them some Texas hospitality and give them a big Texas welcome by attending their performances. If you missed the Trachtenkapelle Rossatz concert in the Fort Worth Stockyards do not despair, there are two more performances coming up. These performances and sponsored by the City of Grapevine. Both of these performances are FREE.
