What next? Call-outs on the celebrated Walk of Fame?

A suspected serial killer called the “Grim Sleeper” is the target of a citywide billboard campaign in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Times. Police say he remains at large after he allegedly murdered at least 11 people in South L.A .since 1985.

New signs feature updated sketches of the suspect – and bring a unique element to the investigation.

Seven big yellow billboards will display three composite drawings of the so-called “Grim Sleeper” suspect. One sketch features a young African-American man. Another displays a heavier version of the same man with gray hair. At the top are photos of the victims police believe he murdered.

LAPD officials say the drawings represent their best guesses of what the suspect may look after aging. Along with the billboards, Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks said tips from people in South L.A. will probably help detectives crack the case, according to theTimes.

“Clearly the LAPD is driving this in the thousands and thousands of hours they put in the investigation continues to highlight that need,” Parks told the Times. “ Plus there are victims’ groups that have attached themselves to this case and they also have been of assistance. So there’s just a variety of network that helps us get this information out.”

When he was police chief nine years ago, Bernard Parks ordered the department to step up the investigation. The suspect has been on the loose since police found the first victim almost 25 years ago. The most recent murder occurred about three years ago. The global media company Clear Channel is helping to post the billboards.
