According to a recent survey, only 12% of home rentals are pet friendly; the numbers are lower for Florida, but a real estate agent has her own ideas about big dogs when renting her home in Jacksonville, Fla. reports the Huffington Post.
Jade Rouzeau, lawyer and real estate agent, with her husband Greg, are animal lovers, and best of all, their adoration for the big breeds and the obvious discrimination against the Rottweilers, dobermans, and pit bulls have inspired the Rouzeau family to rent to owners of large dogs. A recent advertisement on Craig's List stated:
"AVAILABLE AUGUST 1, 2014. 3/2, about 1900 sq. ft. located in established neighborhood in Mandarin. Convenient to 295 and a short drive to many great areas (Town Center, San Marco, Avondale/Riverside etc). 2 car garage. Completely renovated inside (SS appliances, granite, new floors, water softener etc). Corner lot with fenced yard. Responsible renters with large dog(s) a must!!
Background/credit check required. Dep. required."
The Rouzeaus' also run a non profit rescue group, Rooster to the Rescue, an organization dedicated to helping dogs with advanced heartworm disease.
The family has been transferred to Norfolk, Va., and Jade stated they were very fortunate to have found a home which allows big dogs. Although the Craig's List ad has been up a week, Jade is confident the perfect family will come along who will treat her home as if it were their own and who will have those big dogs who desperately need a home with their family.
"Our experience is that once the word gets out, we are contacted by people who are downtrodden and have been searching for months. They have been rejected so many times that you can hear in their voices that our requirements sound almost too good to be true," stated Jade.
If only there were more people like Jade and Greg; imagine the families who could all stay together?
