Online scam targeting kids this holiday

There is a scam that is targeting kids this holiday season. They lure the kids onto special websites by promising them free stuff such as video game systems and other popular electronic items. The kids are led to believe that by playing games, watching videos and filling out surveys that they will be rewarded with these popular items.

What these sites do is lure the kids into giving out their names, email addresses and other personal information.  Children are very naïve and trusting therefore, become an easy target. The information is then sold to marketers and worst case scenario could be used for identity theft.

So the thing to do is educate your children to avoid these kinds of scams and to never give out personal information. Offer them the opportunity to earn an allowance or get a job if he is old enough and save for the items they desire.

Parents can also check to see if a website is legitimate by looking it up on SiteJabber.com and know what your kids are doing online. Oftentimes a child that has been a victim will be too embarrassed to say anything.

Find out what your kids are doing online. Make sure you always have an antivirus installed. You can find Antivirus software at Best Buy stores in the St. Louis area.
