Moments after Warner Bros. announced that 41-year-old actor Ben Affleck had signed on to play the newest incarnation of Batman in a film bringing The Dark Knight and The Man of Steel together on the same screen, fans of the iconic Caped Crusader “launched an online petition in a bid to convince Warner Bros. to drop Ben Affleck as Batman,” according to an Aug. 24 report from MSN.
According to that online petition over at change.org, which already has more than 51,000 supporters:
His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won't do the role justice. He's not built, nor is he intimidating enough for the role of Batman.
His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he's not remotely close to an action star. Please find someone else.
Supporting his choice for Affleck to play Batman in the new film, the film’s director, Zack Snyder, said that:
"He (Affleck) has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne (Batman's alter-ego)."
In addition to Affleck, the new Superman / Batman film will star Henry Cavil, 30, who will reprise his role as Superman. Cavill played Superman in Zack Snyder’s 2013 "Man of Steel."
Also from "Man of Steel," Amy Adams will once again play Lois Lane, with Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Laurence Fishburne portraying Perry White
Production for the new Superman / Batman film is expected to begin next year with an anticipated release date of July 17, 2015.
Comic book fans posting on Twitter that don’t agree with the choice of Affleck to portray Batman / Bruce Wayne in the upcoming film, jokingly suggested that perhaps“Affleck's friend Matt Damon could play Batman's sidekick Robin.”
