No pet owner thinks they will ever lose a pet, but unfortunately, we can’t always control everything that happens. Pets go missing in a multitude of ways: car accidents, broken chains and leashes, theft, or even an open gate. The good news is that as long as your pet is licensed (mandatory by law in Ohio), you have a much better chance of getting your pet back. It’s also a good idea to microchip your pet.
Summit County has recently launched a new online service: the Missing Pet Network. The site was the brainchild of county fiscal officer Kristen Scalise.
The Missing Pet Network allows pet owners to post a photo and information of when their pet was last seen on the Fiscal Office’s wesite: fiscaloffice.summitoh.net. Choose the “Dogs” icon at the top of the homepage, then, choose the “Missing Pet Network” icon. Any posting a pet owner makes will remain on the site for 30 days.
If anybody finds a lost dog with a Summit County dog tag, they can log onto Kristen’s Kanine Search site to locate the owner.
Some of the other greater Cleveland counties offer a similar service. Lorain county, Portage county and Stark county all offer license searches online.
Lorain county has license search at: http://www.loraincounty.com/auditor/dog-licenses/
Portage county has license search at: http://www.co.portage.oh.us/dogwarden.htm
Stark County has license search at: http://www.auditor.co.stark.oh.us/found_dog.asp
