January 12th began candidate registration season for legislative positions as well as county offices across the state.
Montana Secretary of State Linda McCulloch says she has enhanced the security of elections with the launch of and online Montana Fair Elections Center at www.MontanaFairElections.com .
The new website is designed to make it easier for citizens to report potential state election law violations, especially for those far away from Helena in eastern Montana.
The Secretary of State's "Fair Elections Center" provides a simple online submission form for citizens to submit reports of potential election law violations related to state and federal elections, including activity related to voting and signature gathering for petitions. Once a report is submitted to the office, it will be documented, reviewed, and if warranted, passed on to the appropriate authorities.
Secretary McCulloch said "We all share the duty to protect the integrity of Montana elections. The Fair Elections Center improves the oversight of state and federal elections by creating a simple and centralized procedure for citizens to document their concerns as a formal report."
This isn't the first time Secretary McCulloch has encouraged Montanans to report potential election law violations. In 2010, McCulloch launched the state's first formal reporting procedure during the ballot initiative and signature gathering period. The Fair Elections Center enhances and streamlines the 2010 procedure by providing a more centralized location for citizens to turn in reports either online, by phone, through mail, or email.
Secretary McCulloch said. "The site is just another way to give Montana voters confidence in their elections, further ensure transparency, and continue our great track record."
Montana's "Fair Elections Center" is accessible online at www.MontanaFairElections.com. The state's fifty-six county election administrators have the option to add a direct link to the site on county webpages.
