Onion Creek presents third annual H- Town Chili Throwdown

A good bowl of chili is true work of culinary art. Achieving the right consistency and the right balance in taste among the different ingredients takes a certain skill and Houston’s Onion Creek Coffee House has an event scheduled this weekend that will showcase some of the best chili Houstonians can create. When: Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why: To sample some excellent chili and beer, and vote for the winning chili recipe

H- Town Chili Throwdown is the third annual event of its kind at Onion Creek. Multiple teams will prepare and submit their chili in this taste competition, vying for prizes of $500 for first place, $200 for second place; $100 for third place, and $250 for the chili selected as the people’s choice. The chili will be judged by six experts who will base their decision on aroma, consistency, taste, color, originality, and balance of flavor. The guidelines for the competition are:

  • The chili must contain meat and Texas beer
  • The chili must be cooked from scratch
  • The chili must already be prepared and ready to eat
  • The chili can ONLY be reheated at Onion Creek- no other preparation is allowed

There is no space remaining for additional teams and chili entries, but there is still plenty of room available to take part as a spectator, sample the chili, and vote for the one you like best. The cost for a one- day pass to the event is $25 and includes:

  1. T-Shirt
  2. Pint Glass
  3. A pint of beer
  4. Swag Bag
  5. Chili to sample
