One-year-old shot: A young child that was shot and killed this week in New York by a gun wound to the head in a random act of violence had the boy’s dad “going crazy” and left the Brooklyn community stunned, UPI shared this Monday, Sept 2. The baby boy’s name was Antiq Hennis; he was confirmed dead Sunday evening at Brookdale University Hospital after doctors' best attempts to save his life.
A one-year-old shot is terrible news in and of itself, and the fatal shooting occurred this weekend while young Antiq Hennis’ parents were simply pushing him across the street in a stroller near the family’s home. Suddenly, a shot rang out, and Antiq's father saw his boy was shot in the head. The gun wound wasn’t immediately fatal, but one witness said that the baby was unable to respond after the incident. The child's dad was said to be “going crazy” in sheer horror at what happened.
“The boy’s father was shocked. He was screaming ‘My baby got shot.’ He was going crazy,” added the witness of said of the dad’s reaction. “The baby was breathing, but his eyes were closed. It’s crazy. They just will start shooting.”
Although Antiq was hurried to nearby Brookdale Hospital, he was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m. on Sunday night. Another witness said that although she could hear gun shots and saw the one-year-old’s gun wound to the head, she saw no shooter.
“It was a child. I couldn’t watch that anymore. I just get real sad; depressed, and I just came back away from there. It’s awful to be killing kids like that -- you understand? It’s not safe anywhere. I’m scared to walk the streets right now.”
Police are now looking into reports that the alleged gunman was in fact aiming for the one-year-old’s father, but struck the child instead.
